Honor Credit Union Announces 2026 Free Community Shred Days

Honor's Free Community Shred Day- Team members waving and the Honor Credit Union logo

BERRIEN SPRINGS, MICHIGAN – MAY 7, 2026 –
Honor Credit Union is excited to announce its 2026 Free Community Shred Days schedule, offering residents across western and northern Michigan a safe, convenient way to securely dispose of sensitive documents while supporting environmental sustainability.

In partnership with trusted shredding service providers,
Data Guardian and Country Mile Document Destruction, Honor’s Free Community Shred Days help protect against identity theft while ensuring paper materials are responsibly recycled. Community members are encouraged to bring items such as outdated tax records, financial statements, and other confidential documents for secure destruction.

Now in its 12th year, Honor Credit Union’s Free Community Shred Days have become a longstanding tradition focused on protecting personal information and offering people a practical way to declutter while reducing landfill waste.

“We want to do all we can to protect our members,” said Scott McFarland, CEO of Honor Credit Union.

“Offering free Shred Days is one of the ways we work in our communities to help protect sensitive information. Another way is through services like e‑statements and online banking, it reflects our ongoing commitment to care for our members and the communities we serve.”

Each event will operate as a convenient drive-thru service, with Honor team members assisting in the collection of documents. To ensure service to as many community members as possible, households are limited to 10 boxes or bags per event. While shredding will not take place on-site at most locations, all materials will be securely transported and destroyed by trusted partners, Data Guardian and Country Mile Document Destruction.

On-site shredding will be available exclusively at the Gwinn event, in partnership with Country Mile Document Destruction.

Honor is thankful to the local Michigan businesses and organizations hosting these events to help make this free service easy and convenient for the public to access.
