Honor Partners With Bridgman Cares To Donate Meals

honor credit union partnered with bridgman cares to donate holiday meals to families in need

BRIDGMAN, MI – Dec. 19, 2019 – Honor Credit Union teamed up with local group Bridgman Cares to help donate boxed meals for 58 families in the community who would otherwise go without a holiday meal. Honor provided financial assistance to make the donations possible for Bridgman Cares, which began collecting donations in November from community members, local churches, and local businesses.

“When I heard that Bridgman Cares received only a portion of donations for families this holiday season, I knew right away I wanted to help,” commented Thomas Newnum, Honor’s Community Assistant Vice President. “We immediately put a plan into action to get funds to the group so they could provide holiday meals to more families in the community.”

Bridgman Cares consists of a group of community members that work to provide for Bridgman students in need.  The group’s motto is “no questions asked.” All students can ask for items from the pantry without any forms, permission, or financial records.

The goal of the group is to ensure pantries are available to all students in the community without a negative stigma attached. Athletes are able to take a snack before practice if needed, girls can stop by for feminine hygiene products if forgotten, and students without the required school supplies can request those missing items.

“I was saddened to hear about students not having snacks at the elementary school or backpacks and school supplies at the high school,” reflected Bridgman Cares member, Jennifer Brueck. “I reached out to a small bible study group I’m involved in, and we immediately agreed this was something we could help out with.

“From there, we formed a small group of community members and held a supply drive at our local grocery store. Our first goal was to establish small pantries in each school filled with snacks, water, toiletry items, school supplies, etc. for students to take as needed.”

Since forming in 2015, Bridgman Cares’ mission and purpose have grown beyond pantries. The group proudly supplies gym shoes, athletic fees, college deposits, and holiday meals to those in need. Bridgman Public School’s counselors advocate for our students in need and encourage them to ask Bridgman Cares for help. So far, the group has been able to provide for nearly all incoming requests.
