BERRIEN SPRINGS, MICHIGAN — June 24, 2026 – Honor Credit Union is proud to announce its participation in the 2026 HomeBoost Down Payment Assistance Program in partnership with the FHLBank Indianapolis. This grant opportunity is designed to help remove one of the biggest barriers to homeownership—saving for a down payment.
Beginning July 8, 2026, qualified first-time and first-generation homebuyers in Indiana and Michigan may apply for HomeBoost funds, which are available on a first come first served basis. HomeBoost provides financial assistance that can reduce upfront costs and make purchasing a home more achievable.
“The HomeBoost program helps open the door to first-time and first-generation home buyers who may have thought it was out of reach for them,” said Kim O’Donoghue, AVP of Real Estate Sales. “By offering down payment assistance and guidance from our local mortgage experts, we’re helping our community members move forward in the homeownership process with confidence.”
The HomeBoost program is open to first-time buyers and first-generation buyers who meet the following qualifying requirements:
- First-time homebuyer and first-generation homebuyers
- Must apply for a mortgage financing with a participating financial institution, such as Honor Credit Union
- Must provide evidence that household income is below 120% of the area median income (AMI)
- The home being purchased must be in Michigan or Indiana and used as a primary residence
- Complete a required homebuyer counseling course offered online
- Must contribute a minimum of $500 towards the purchase
- Eligible properties: 1–4-unit homes, condos, townhomes, co-ops, and manufactured homes
You do not need to be an Honor member to apply. Membership is only required at loan closing, and applicants may be pre-approved before becoming members. Individuals who may qualify are encouraged to schedule a call with a local Honor mortgage lender to get started. Learn more at https://www.honorcu.com/mortgage/homebuyer-assistance/.
