With 28 member locations around Michigan, Honor Credit Union is a place where people can come with any questions they have about their finances. Now, after a massive technology upgrade, members also can get many of those answers right at their fingertips with Honor’s Mobile and Online banking.

For example, when a member opens the app, they can see their credit score right on the home screen. And with one touch, they can dig into that to learn more about the number and what it means.

“We want to make available to members what they need to be successful,” said Heather Luciani, Honor’s Chief Strategy Officer. “Ensuring they have the information allows for conversation about strategies for financial health.”

Long gone are the days when banks simply locked up your money in a vault for safekeeping. As people’s lives have grown more complex, the best modern financial institutions now take an active role in promoting financial wellness. That’s especially true at Honor Credit Union, which gives members tools they can use to manage their finances in the ways that work best for them.

The system enhancement that Honor implemented last year was a critical investment in meeting and exceeding member expectations. The accessible, new self-serve tools and features are quick, responsive and intuitive to use. They also unlock integrations that enable detailed insights to support smarter, more informed decisions on a wide range of financial activities.

Here’s a look at just some of the user-friendly technology now available through Honor Credit Union to make money management simpler and more transparent:

  • Budgeting dashboard available on both mobile and online banking that analyzes data
in your account to summarize the money you have coming in and the money you have
going out. You can even link external accounts to get an even fuller picture of your finances.
  • Spending insights broken down by category – or all the way down to retailer, time,
and location – so you can see just how much you’re spending at your favorite store or
coffee shop. You can also set and track individual or family savings goals right within the app.
  • Monthly recaps of spending with graphics that give you a picture of the raw data at a glance.
  • Comprehensive view of your credit score with trends and all credit‑related activity in
one place, along with information on debt‑to‑income ratio and other factors that
contribute to your score, as well as suggestions for ways to increase it.
  • Features including early deposit so you can receive your paycheck on your schedule,
and instant access to short‑term loans for bigger purchases right through your Honor account.

“Our member promise is ‘Providing solutions for your financial success.’ That’s why we’re here,” Luciani said. “These types of tools reflect our commitment to our members because it’s not just about the bottom line for us. It’s really about how do we put tools in front of the member that can be used how they want to use them.

“That’s the core of what Honor does and the commitment we make to our members.”

In addition to providing helpful tools for members to use in daily money management, Honor Credit Union continually advocates at the state and federal level for public policy that supports the financial wellness of members and the broader community.

For example, Luciani has participated in Hike The Hill, an effort to educate lawmakers on the vital role not‑for‑profit credit unions play in the financial health of members. She’s also part of a nationwide “Don’t Take My Credit Union” initiative that aims to preserve the tax‑exempt status of credit unions. That way, Honor can continue to put resources back into services that support the financial wellness of members.

“We’re owned by our membership,” Luciani said. “We don’t have stockholders to give money to. It stays within the organization and it’s our members’ money, literally.

“So, if we can give our members tools to help them feel more empowered and understand more about their finances, that gives them a leg up.”
