Debit & Credit Card Fraud Protection

If you have a credit or debit card with Honor Credit Union, you are automatically enrolled in our free card protection program. Rest assured, we’ll be working hard to make sure we catch potential fraud from happening on your card. Our intention is to deliver fraud alerts directly to you as quickly as possible to identify fraud and stop it before it happens. You could be notified as quickly as 30 seconds after a suspicious transaction takes place.

Text & Call Alerts

For your safety, when we suspect fraudulent activity on an account, no matter if it is your credit card or debit card, the transaction will be declined (although some lower risk transactions might go through) and the majority of accounts will be blocked. We will contact you first with a free text message (if a cellphone is listed as your primary number). If a landline is listed as the primary number you’ll receive a voice call and a message will be left if you don’t answer. If we cannot reach you after several attempts a letter will be sent via U.S. Mail explaining why your card was blocked.

Example of a fraud alert text message from Honor Credit UnionText Message

You’ll receive free text* alerts 24/7 anytime possible fraud is identified. If you recognize the transaction and authorize it reply “YES”, otherwise reply “NO.”

  • If we receive a “NO” reply, a fraud specialist will call you immediately to protect your account. Please answer this important call.

* SMS/Text is free to members with mobile service through Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint. Other usage costs may apply based on your mobile carrier.

Voice Call

You’ll receive voice call alerts between 9 AM and 9 PM in your time zone. You’ll be prompted to answer questions during the call to confirm the transaction or you will be transferred to a representative if the transaction was not recognized.

To ensure fraud alerts are sent properly, make sure your primary phone number is up to date on your Honor account. You can do this within your online account, by contacting our Member Solutions Center, or by coming into your local Honor branch.

When You Receive An Alert

Please communicate with us when you receive an alert so you can get back to business as usual. When we notify you, please respond via text or phone and let us know whether the transaction is valid. If it is valid, we will automatically unblock your account. Please keep in mind that it could take 5–10 minutes for a block to be removed in some situations. Once we update our system, you can attempt the transaction again, usually within 5–10 minutes.
