Before Traveling

  • First things first, keep us informed by filling out a travel form or giving Member Service a call at 800.442.2800. By filling out this online form or giving us a call, you'll be letting us know to expect transactions from your desired destination.
  • If traveling internationally, beware of blocked and sanctioned countries. For a current list of these countries, visit the Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) of the US Department of Treasury's updated list here. If the country you are visiting is on this list, ALL card activity will be blocked per the requirement from OFAC. On occasion, Honor Credit Union may block countries in addition to those listed on the OFAC list, but should there be additional countries, they would be listed here. If you have any questions regarding these countries, give Member Service a call at 800.442.2800. Current countries blocked in addition to the OFAC list include:
    • Brazil: Both Debit & Credit Blocked

    • Mexico: Debit Only Blocked

  • While debit and credit cards are accepted in most countries, both MasterCard and Visa charge foreign currency conversion fees for purchases made with their credit and debit cards, in addition to ATM cash withdrawals.

    • International Single Currency Fee: 0.8% of transaction

      • Single Currency Fee: Refers to a merchant that is located in the U.S. but processes the transaction as foreign

    • International Multi Currency Fee: 1.0% of transaction

      • Multi Currency Fee: Refers to a transaction that is conducted out of the country that involves a currency conversion.

  • Check your PINs. It never hurts to double-check your PINs before you travel. If you need a new PIN, contact Member Services at least 10 days before you leave.
  • Make copies. No matter where you go, it’s good to photocopy the important stuff like your passport, credit/debit cards, driver’s license, itineraries and other vital documents. Give a copy to family or friends, your tour guide (if you have one) and keep one copy with you in case something gets lost or stolen.
  • Take us with you! Before you leave, make sure you document all the important Honor Credit Union numbers with you.

While Traveling

  • Just in case, take more than one method of payment.
  • Stay away from travelers cheques. There are now tons of fraudulent travelers cheques out there, so a lot of merchants don’t accept them anymore.
  • In countries that have adopted chip technology, particularly in Europe, international visitors may continue to use their non-chip-enabled cards; most chip terminals will recognize and process a magnetic stripe card.
  • If any issue or concerns arise pertaining to your Honor Credit Union debit or credit cards, contact Member Service at 800.442.2800.
