ST. JOSEPH, Mich.- October 29, 2018—Upton Middle School celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Upton Bears Student Credit Union on Tuesday, October 23. This marks the third student credit union to open in the St. Joseph School District, joining Lincoln Elementary School and Brown Elementary School, and the 17th currently operating within Honor Credit Union. In anticipation of the grand opening, 11 Honor CU youth accounts were opened at Upton Middle School.

The grand opening of the Upton Bears Student Credit Union was held last week at Upton Middle School. Honor's St. Joseph Branch Manager, Tanya Urias, led the student assembly to excite the school about the importance of saving money. Operating the new student credit union are student tellers and managers alongside Urias and her team at Honor. Students were invited to submit their deposits to their youth accounts shortly following the ribbon cutting.

Two dignitaries stand next to State Senator John Proos as he hands a special tribute paper to Honor's branch manager.

Joining Honor’s team members for the grand opening were State Senator John Proos, Congressman Fred Upton’s  District Director Mike Ryan, and State Representative Kim LaSata’s Legislative Director Arthur Havlicek. State Senator John Proos presented a special tribute to Upton Middle School on behalf of himself, Congressman Fred Upton, and State Representative Kim LaSata to highlight the important life skills and financial literacy the students will learn because of the student credit union.

Upton Bears Student Credit Union will be open to the students at Upton Middle School every Tuesday from 11-12:30 pm.
